On Australia Day 2018 ten people will be cycling for three days, over 300kms through the East Coast of Tasmania, for our annual charity bike ride with 25000 Spins! Here’s a snapshot of some more of our riders who have taken some time out to answer the Fast–Five questions put to them by our volunteers. Please meet Nathan and Mick…
NATHAN
1. HOW DID YOU HEAR ABOUT THE 25,000 SPINS EVENT AND WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO FUNDRAISE FOR BIKES 4 LIFE?
This is my third ride with 25000spins, I chose Bikes4Life after a friend chose them on a previous ride and I loved the idea of giving the gift of riding to someone else.
MICK
1. HOW DID YOU HEAR ABOUT THE 25,000 SPINS EVENT AND WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO FUNDRAISE FOR BIKES 4 LIFE?
My friend Nathan told me he was doing the ride. I thought it sounded great so ended up signing on also. I chose bikes4life because I believe its a great charity. I love that such a simple thing as recycling a discarded bike can make such a significant positive impact on communities.
2. TRAINING AHEAD OF THE 300KM RIDE?
I did a bit of training over the Christmas break. The last couple of weeks haven’t done much so the first day is going to hurt. But can’t wait to get on the bike and see Tassie.
3. FAVE MEAL AFTER A RIDE?
Definitely scones with strawberry jam and whipped cream.
4. DOES CYCLING HELP TAKE YOUR MIND OFF OTHER THINGS AND REDUCE STRESS?
Yeah definitely. For me its part of my daily commute and routine. I also try and do at least one non-commute ride per week. We have some good hills and bush in the western suburbs of Brisbane, its great to get out amongst it.
5. LONGEST RIDE?
I think about 115km. I don’t do many long rides these days, weekends are jam packed with family time and kids sport.
